Geneology sources

Genealogy sources available in the library.

Micro-film:

The library has a micro-film reader available for patrons to use in researching genealogy from the local newspaper, The Lake View Resort.  The local historical preservation committee of the town recently took on the project of having all of the newspapers micro-filmed.  These films are available for viewing at the library and date back as far as 1889.

Obituaries:

We have an alphabetical listing of the obituaries that appeared in the Lake View Resort from 1880 to 2012.  This listing tells the name, maiden name (if applicable), birth date, death date, and in which issue of the Lake View Resort the obituary appeared.

Cemetery Records:

There are also copies of the Lake View Centennial Book and cemetery records from the following:Ferguson Cemetery, Emmanuel Presbyterian Cemetery, Wall Lake Cemetery and Sac County Iowa Cemeteries of both Viola and Wall Lake Townships.

Centennial Books:
We have the Centennial books for Lake View, Auburn, Breda, Sac City, and Wall Lake, as well as Sac County.  These have lots of fascinating tidbits in them, as well as biographies of notable people.  We also have Andreas' 1875 Historical Atlas of Iowa.  Our Iowa section, although not strictly for genealogy, reveals a lot of interesting books about times gone by.
